This is your brain on a cutting board
Saw this story in this month's Wired. These pics by David Clugston are awesome but also disturbing, creepy, confusing, hard to look at, and completely raw and awesome. The two tiny drops of blood are just perfect. Well done David!

PDN 30 / Take it or Make it
Every year I secretly hope that I'll be selected for the PDN 30. Every year, I am not selected. And every year I get a little older.
After looking through the work of our promising future stars, I'm a little disappointed. A great deal of the work was shot as a reaction to something, rather than creating something from scratch. Taking vs. Making. Not sure why this is -- the whole selection seemed much more Fine Art and Journalism influenced than it has in the past. Maybe the folks at PDN are more interested in reality than artifice these days? Who knows.
I'm ok without other people validating my work. There's no other choice but to think that, unless you like beating yourself up. But it's also nice to get a shout out every once in a while. Maybe it's time to reinvent myself as a 20 year old with an art degree and a Yashica point and shoot?

Profotos for sale
Got some help from a super nice past master at the Cheyenne Masons in putting together a portrait shoot last week. I'm loving this project, and looking forward to continuing it. Shot my new Canon in low light -- f2.8, 1/30 sec at 1600 iso, and the files look great. Might have to sell my Profotos and become a natural light shooter...

The ZION CURTAIN
Speaking of bars in Utah, it looks like there are some people that want to make them even weirder. The Utah Senate passed a bill requiring establishments serving booze to build a TEN FOOT WALL called the "Zion Curtain." Apparently this is supposed to keep youngsters from being tempted into underage drinking by the sight of liquor.
This will totally work. When you build a 10 foot wall around anything and keep it really secret, then kids tend to want it less, right? Go for it Utah!
Here is the article that explains the insanity and retardedness in more detail.

Strange Nightlife in Utah
Shot some images of Alta at night for Powder Magazine. I've been going to Alta every year for the last 15 years. I love it because it's all about the skiing. The bars close around 10pm, and literally everyone goes to sleep.
My favorite bar in the world is in Alta. Maybe that's because I'm only there after an amazing day of skiing. Or maybe because it closes at 10pm....

What I had for lunch today
Two day old bagel with one day old turkey, swiss cheese and dijon. Gala Apple. Water from a cup that makes it taste like coffee.
